An installation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art is the most epic toy car race you'll see anywhere.
Over the past few years, we at Drive Cult have become huge fans of the Nürburgring 24 hour race. This is in no small part due to the fact that its enormous field usually consists of between 200 and 300 cars from all corners of the world. But, it's got nothing on Chris Burden's installation at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It's a fully automated Hot Wheels car track that's capable of continuously circulating over 1200 cars.
If you're a dude of a certain age who likes cars, there's a good chance you've owned a Hot Wheels car or 300. You might even still toss one in the cart at the grocery store when you girlfriend or wife isn't looking. You may have also tried to build your own Nürburgring out of those flimsy plastic track sections in your parent's living room (or again in your current living room when your girlfriend or wife isn't looking), but I don't think any of us could have imagined anything close to this. For that, Mr. Burden, we and our seven-year-old selves salute you.
